In  the second half of the week we are focusing on skills needed to successfully navigate multiplying and dividing fractions and decimals. Toady we did the following: Fractions to Decimal equivalencies practice Order of Operations Practice Game for common/basic fraction to decimal review - Puppy Chase Game to review Order of Operations - PEMDAS EXHIBIT Logic Problems Divisibility Rules Divisibility Rules Practice Long Division Here is a video to help those having trouble remembering the steps for successful long division.

Welcome to the Second Session of Middle School Math Basics. On this blog you you find a general summary of topics we are covering and some resources for review or to explore a topic further.  On day one of our session we got to know each other a bit and settled into some routines. We played some card games to collect data for future math problems.  On day students began work on "Skittles Math" a packet that reviews place value, fractions and percentages and students began a packet that tests how well they mastered material from the first session and/or guides placement for small group lessons if students are new to the class in this second session. Today, day 3, we began a review of division as we continued to work on the work mentioned above and took a crack at a math riddle.  LONG DIVISION MATH RIDDLE:

A great resource for more practice:   Math-Drills Order of Operations printable worksheets ORGANIZE YOUR WORD PROBLEMS: 1) List and label all numbers 2) Write a filling blank sentence answer for each question asked in the problem. 3) Write equations to solve each question asked, using your listed numbers and the sentences you wrote as a guide to what needs to be done. 4) Fill in the blanks on each sentence you wrote to answer each question asked in the problem.
